Santa’s Helpers {Contractions}

I had lots of little helpers in my room today! I always have some good helpers, but today I had some *extra-ly* good helpers! I had SANTA’S HELPERS!!!

This week, we are learning about contractions! I told the kiddos that Santa sent me a lot of words that really needed some work!! I told them that Santa needed these words to be taken apart and put back together to make one word instead of 2. Of course after all this, they were pumped to see what these words were! After revealing the words and showing them how to take these words apart and put back together, they were ready to start their work.

No work for Santa is complete without a helper’s hat of course!!

After getting our hats on, it was time to get out all of our *tools*! We got out our saws (scissors), hammers and screwdrivers (pencils), nails (Avery circle labels), paint (crayons), and our wood glue (glue).

I gave each kiddo one of Santa’s words and they got to work! They painted (colored) the words, cut and nailed (glued and used circle labels) to put the words back together!

It was too fun y’all!

Here’s how to make the Elf hats. They are super duper easy!

You will need just a regular size piece of construction paper. Fold the top two corners down to make a large triangle.

Trim off the bottom piece….

Staple the two sides to make a cone shape….

…cut out two Elf ears

Staple one ear to each side of the hat….

and glue a cotton ball to the top like so!

I used these labels for our *nails*. I just had to kiddos color them grey before they used them!

Happy Wednesday friends!!!

  5. Did you freehand your grinch and elf for your board? They are adorable. You really should make a pattern and sell it if you did. I would be the first in line to buy it. I can't even draw stick people, lol. I can how ever make awesome crafts. Weird isn't it. Thank you for sharing your wonderful work with us. Your kids did fantastic jobs. The last grinch paper plate craft is my favorite, kids are so creative. God Bless. mrs. Valerie
